A high-quality photograph on the Valtti card enhances the safety of the card and reduces the risk of misuse. Please check that the photograph you add meets the following requirements:
- The photograph should be similar to a passport photograph, i.e., a headshot taken directly from the front.
- The head must be in the middle of the photograph and the face and shoulders must be squared to the camera.
- The photograph must have a monochrome background.
- The face must stand out clearly from the background.
- The photo can be black and white or with colour.
Technical requirements of the image
- File format jpg or png
- Aspect ratio 3:4.1
- File size under 10 MB
- Minimum image size 309x422 pixels
The person may merge in with the background if the colour of the face and the background is too similar. The required quality of the photograph is, to a large extent, linked to the properties of the laser printer used by the printing house. Laser printers are especially sensitive to the contrast, for which reason the photograph should have a sufficient level of contrast and grey tones. Where required, the photograph can be edited in graphics software or a new photograph with sharper tones can be taken. The quality of the photograph will be inspected during the printing phase and if it is not sufficient, the card will not be printed.
How do I take a photograph for a Valtti card?
A photograph that meets the set requirements can be taken by using the most popular mobile phone and SLR camera models. The aspect ratio, dimensions of the image, and file size can be checked from the settings of the mobile phone’s image application or the settings of the camera. Where required, the size of the image can be adjusted in graphics software.
Always use an original photograph taken by using the correct aspect ratio, never a photograph downloaded from social media or a website. The latter do not meet the set quality requirements. The original image file provided by a photography studio should be used when an official passport photograph taken in a studio is used. The file can be requested from the studio, e.g., by email.
The more detailed definitions of the requirements can be found on the licence administration‘s photograph instructions.
Happy with the photograph?
Once you have added the photograph, ensure that it is not grainy (poor resolution), under or overexposed, the wrong way round or unclear, and that there are no shadows on the face. If the image does not seem to meet the quality requirements, take a new one.
Please note that the image will be printed in black and white.
